Dear Mrs Chioti,
Please include the
following note (under the above title) in PETI 0573/2011 (20/12/11) .
Taking the Waste
Management Installations at Grammatiko as an example to clarify the
profoundness of the mistake consider
the following:
1/ the planned Waste
Manag. Installations. at Grammatiko is for the population of N.E.
Attica.(according to MIN.ENV. etc. decision)
2/ the population of
N.E.Attica is no more than 200.000 people.
3/ 200.000 people
produce no more than 100.000 tones of mixed waste per year (eurostat).
4/ The total of
installations to deal with mixed (unsorted) waste is for 255.000
tons/year.(127.500 t/y ‘’hygienic’’ burial (150.000 m2) + 127.500 M.B.T.).
5/ From 3/ and 4/ it
is already obvious that installation are 2,5 times oversized.
6/ The above conclusion (5/) is a gross underestimation of the ecological crime and economic scandal (concerning every European citizen) because it is based on the illegal (see dir.2008/98) assumption that the 100.000 tons/y of waste can be nothing else but totally unsorted and that all must go to a Central Installation.
Which means: zero application of dir. 2008/98, zero prevention, zero
reuse, zero recirculation, zero separation at the source and (or) as close as possible to the sources, zero
participation of people enterprises, municipalities etc., zero composting in as
small as possible scale (clean composting), zero application of any of many
effective European practices.
According to eurostat the mean European percentage of waste that remains in mixed condition and needs some sort of a central installation processing is already less than 50%.
